Patna’s Abhilasha created history by winning bronze medal in Asian Sambo. Two players from Bihar created history in the Asian Sambo Championship held in Astana, Kazakhstan from June 7 to 11. Poonam Yadav of Kaimur and Abhilasha Kumari of Patna brought laurels to the country and the state by winning bronze medals in the senior Asian competition. Abhilasha Kumari won a bronze medal in the 54 kg combat event, while Poonam Yadav won a bronze medal in the 59 kg combat event. Abhilasha and Poonam were congratulated by Jitendra Kumar Rai, Minister of Art, Culture and Youth Department, Government of Bihar, Pankaj Raj, Secretary, Bihar State Sports Director, Vinay Kumar Singh, General Secretary, Bihar Sambo Association, on winning the medal. Five players from Bihar are participating in this competition, including Abhilasha Kumari in 54 kg weight category, Abhijeet Kumar in 88 kg weight category, Prince Kumar Pandey in 70 kg weight category and Budhik Singh Yadav in 88 kg weight category, 58 kg weight.
